With the 18th century discovery of anthracite coal in Northeastern Pennsylvania, a revolution of industrial development and growth began. Evolving from woodlands and farmland, "The Coal Region" became one of the most popular purveyors of industrial and commercial fossil fuel in the country, a change that would significantly alter and shape the landscape and communities of this corner of the Commonwealth.
